Then they say I was supposed to keep the utilities in my name until the end of the month. Why? If nothing was used then why is there a bill. One was for $50 something for Alliant Energy. Why is it so much if no one was there for 2 weeks. I got my last bill from that address forwarded to me. I guess they want me to pay for the electricity or gas they used when they to so call clean the apartment after I left. I bet they don't clean the apartments before people move in. Especially if the lease ends on July 31 and new tenants move in August 1. I was told before I moved out a month before that they did not have my apartment rented for August 1 as of yet. Maybe if they would stop raising the rent every year $25 maybe someone would stay longer then 2 years. If anyone ask me I will tell them if they want their deposit back when they move out don't rent from them.
I rented from Hawkeye Real Estate for 2 years. Never late on my rent. Never had a problem. Moved out with notice a couple of weeks before lease was up, but still paid the whole months rent. Then I get a bill saying I owed right at $80 to them and would not get my $600 deposit back. I have never not got my deposit back with previous landlords. They say I didn't clean the apartment to their standards. The apartment was not cleaned as well as I did at move out when I moved in. In fact I was told when I was given the move in check list that some people say the apartment is not cleaned very well but their standards may not be what others are, basically so I would not say anything. Which I didn't. Later they use the same line to keep my deposit.
We had a similar experience below. We didn't live in the apartment for two months and experienced higher than normal utility payments. We must have been paying for them to use the air and everything while they cleaned, etc. They also kept quite a bit of our deposit when we kept the apartment in a clean state at all times. There was some water damage on the window sill that we didn't notice because we had things placed in front of them but really it's the fault of their windows not sealing properly. Overall not a bad experience just displeased with some of the ways things were handled after leaving.
